BMW i3 was introduced in 2011 and started production in 2013. Between 2014 and 2016 it was considered the third most sold electric vehicle in the world and has had been a catalyst in the world of electric cars.

The BMW i3 has won two World Car of the Year Awards, selected as 2014 World Green Car of the Year and also as 2014 World Car Design of the Year.^[29] 

The i3 received an iF Product Design Gold Award, and won both UK Car of the Year 2014 and Best Supermini of 2014 in the first UK Car of the Year Awards.

The i3 sits on a skateboard style battery pack which has allowed for some creative and innovative ideas to reduce weight and extend range for the electric vehicle.

The use of carbon fibre and Hemp has considerably reduce traditional weight issues and allows the car to continue to push the boundaries of environmentally friendly vehicles.

The i3 specs include an electric motor with an output of 125kw and peak torque of 250Nm.

This power is transferred to the wheels through a single speed transmission and is powered by the li-ion battery pack which allows for up 160km range
